"I Am Powerful, Rooted and Strong"
Overview
The Root Chakra is located at the base of the spine, and it is the first chakra in the 7 chakra system. The element this energy center is associated with is earth and the color it is represented by is red. The Root Chakra is known for it's association with survival issues and self preservation and is the root of your being. This energy center establishes the connection between your physical body, your environment and the Earth. Your flight, fight or freeze response is initiated from your Root Chakra as this is your instinctual survival center.
When balanced and flowing free, this energy center helps us increase our sense of belonging, feeling secure in our choices, stability in goal setting and organization, and an increased sense of self worth.
This chakra is the center of:
-Being in touch with your body/environment
-Living in the present moment
-Manifesting Stability/Abundance
-Feeling safe and secure
-Career satisfaction
-Physical vitality
Signs of Imbalances or Blockages
-Being resistant to change
-Unable to manifest abundance
-Lower back pain
-Career-related dissatisfaction
-Careless behavior and attitude
-Unwarranted fear and anxiety
Blockages or imbalance in the chakra system can be caused by a number of things including illness, stress, emotional upset or conflict. The good news is, our energetic body is in constant motion, even if you feel like you're experiencing symptoms of an imbalanced center it does not have to last long if you take it upon yourself to work towards improvement.
"I Take Care Of My Wellbeing"
Grounding/Earthing Practice
There are numerous research studies that explore connecting to the Earth's natural energy as a means to pain, fatigue and other ailments so many are dealing with on a daily basis. This connection is known as Grounding or Earthing. To go a little deeper, when your bare feet or skin comes in contact with the earth, free electrons are taken up into the body. These electrons could be referred to as nature’s biggest antioxidants and help neutralize damaging excess free radicals that can lead to inflammation and disease in the body.
Benefits:
Reduce chronic pain and inflammation
Improve sleep
Increase energy
Stress reduction
It's recommended to attempt Earthing for at least half an hour by standing, sitting or laying on the Earth barefoot (this includes, grass, sand, and dirt) with the intention of connecting to nature and feeling the energy circulating through you. Some deep breathing exercises during this time or meditation are also beneficial. Below I'll include an excerpt from a research article that discusses the benefits of Earthing:
"...emerging scientific research has revealed a surprisingly positive and overlooked environmental factor on health: direct physical contact with the vast supply of electrons on the surface of the Earth. Modern lifestyle separates humans from such contact. The research suggests that this disconnect may be a major contributor to physiological dysfunction and unwellness. Reconnection with the Earth's electrons has been found to promote intriguing physiological changes and subjective reports of well-being. Earthing (or grounding) refers to the discovery of benefits—including better sleep and reduced pain—from walking barefoot outside or sitting, working, or sleeping indoors connected to conductive systems that transfer the Earth's electrons from the ground into the body."
